Unlicensed In this section I will try and provide information and some pictures about FFVII related items manufactured without a license. By “Unlicensed” items I mean items that have never been manufactured by licensed companies, but have been designed and manufactured by parties without a license. Technically these (mass-produced unlicensed items for commercial use) are illegal just as fake items, and they rarely have any real collectable value. In theory one could say that Doujinshi comics and items are also unlicensed items, as well as all other fan made products. In practice however, there is not really anything wrong with a fan made plush doll or poster, but they do not have any *real* collectable value. The typical unlicensed FFVII items are things like t-shirts, coffee mugs, baseball caps, lighters... The list goes on. Such items are often mass produced as blank unmarked items and then made into "fan products" by sticking for example a logo (FFVII, Biohazard, Manchester United...) on them. Needless to say, such items have no collectable value, but they might be fun to have if you want to show of with a cheap unlicensed FFVII wallet.
That being said, I personally consider a few unlicensed items as collectables - mainly because they look nice and are not too easy to get hold of. As far as I know, there are at least 5 different FFVII Poker Decks, two of which have holographic backsides, and two of which have similar backsides but different fronts. In all the decks the cards have different illustations from the game and consept art. The holographic decks are out of print and thus quite hard to find. The most common deck, one of the "Cloud & Daytona" decks can be easily purchased with few dollars but is not of the best of quality.
The unlicensed FFVII stickers are usually cheap and of varying quality and availability. I personally find them fun to collect as they are nice and colourful. In addition to stickers there are also unlicensed cards and such, which are also quite nice in my opinion. ^_^
The FFVII wall scrolls and posters seen on online shops and auctions are almost 100% of the time unlicensed items. Not worth much but might look nice on your wall...
The reasonably rare Barret Cold Cast is an unlicensed item. As far as I know, there are no official Barret cold casts or statues.
An unlicensed FFVII jigsaw puzzle.
Another group of unlicensed items worth mentioning is the Materias. There are quite a few different styles, some are just bright balls that the sellers call "materia" and some are fancy sets with marble stands, DVDs and collectors' cards. No matter how nice and dandy some of these sets might look, they are just fan made products. As far as I know, Square has never licensed the making of any "materia", therefore there are no official materia sets no matter what some sellers might tell you. One funny things about the materia sets; most of the time the Shiva materia is blue and Choco/Mog yellow. How stupid is that? Any FFVII fan knows all summon materia is red! Typically the prices of such sets can get pretty high on online auctions as they do look quite attractive.
