Advent Children

Advent Children is a computer animated movie that continues the story of FFVII two years after the end of the original story. This action filled movie came out in Japan on September 14th 2005. On this page I will present the different exsisting FFVII AC merchandise and collectibles.

FFVII Advent Children sure took  its time, but that does did stop Square-Enix from making money of FFVII AC merchandise. Actually, S-E kept selling official AC merchandise on their Japanese website for well over a year while constantly pushing forward the publishishing date of the actual movie. After the final release date was announced, S-E started selling some official AC merchandise also on its North American website making the prewiously rare and expensive items more affordable.

Please note that since Advent Children is still fresh and very popular there are a huge amount of people trying to make money by selling fake and unlicensed FFVII AC merchandice. Especially places such as eBay are filled to brim with fake AC DVDs, CDs, lighters, jewelry and clothing.

There are three versions of the Japanese FFVII Advent Children DVD. All three versions were released on the 14th of September 05.
     1) The regular DVD version

     2) The Limited Edition 1st Print DVD with extra material

     3) The Ultimate Limited Edition Advent Pieces with extra material, Cloud&Fenrir figures, a voice actor script, a shirt and a cap, a limited edition keychain, a new version of the Japanese FFVII International and a DVD with the short animated movie Final Fantasy VII: The Last Order on it. The Ultimate Limited Edition, although otherwise very nice, does not feature english subtitles or dialogue. The set is limited to 77777 pieces.

The Japanese UMD version of the FFVII AC for the Sony PSP was also be released on September 14th, and includes an extra "High Speed Battle Music Selection", a set of battle music tracks from the FFVII AC Official Soundtrack as a bonus.

The North American release of FFVII AC consists of two DVDs, but the buyers who preordered the set were also given a bonus DVD including extra material. There will also be a DVD & UMD combo available for the North American market.

The European release of FFVII AC consists of two DVDs. There will also be a DVD & UMD combo availabe for the European market.

This Australian release of FFVII AC comes in a special collector's tin case and consists of two DVDs.

The FFVII Advent Children Prologue book was published by Shueisha and consists of 128 pages of which 72 are color pages. The book has lots of pictures from the movie and just like all other official FFVII books, this book has only been published in Japanese.

The FFVII Reunion files book is an approximately A4 size art book consisting of approximately 140 pages of pictures, production sketches and extra information regarding the movie and its charasters. Unlike most official FFVII books, the text in this book is in both Japanese AND English. Available in soft cover or deluxe hard cover version. Published in Japan in May 2006.

The Official Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Soundtrack was released on 28th of September 2005. The Limited First Edition (SQEX 10051-2) features a foil cover case, but the constents of the two CDs are identical to the constents of the regular edition of the OST. Also the two versions also share the same catalog number. Note that there are A LOT of cheap, fake and illegal AC soundtracks out there: If the price sounds too good to be true it usually is. Look for the Square-Enix logo in the lower corner if you want to be sure you are buying the real thing, the fake soundtracks don't usually have it printed on them.

Here are some early pictures of the official FFVII AC Play Arts figures - Sephiroth, Tifa, Cloud & Fenrir and Vincent. The release date for the Japanese Play Arts figures was in August 2005.

There are two different versions of the official Play Arts Advent Children figures: the Japanese release and the US release. Just like the US versions of the original Extra Knights figures the US version Advent Children figures have a white "Warning!" sign on their boxes. The Japanese release figures cost about twice the price of the US release figures, but as for I know there are no differences in quality between these two releases. The pictures below are of the Japanese versions of Vincent, Tifa and Sephiroth and Cloud & Fenrir and Cloud which were only released in the US. The figures were sculpted by Takayuki Takeya.

The paint job and the shape of the head of the Cloud figure are slightly different between the US version (on the left) and the Japanese version from the Advent Pieces box set (on the right).

Since the Cloud & Fenrir set released in Japan as a part of the Advent Pieces set did not come with the extra parts included in the US version of the set, the parts were made available as a separate set of extra parts.

The grey figures pictured below are prototype versions of the FFVII AC figures. Wouldn't it be sooooo cool being able to find some of these?

Three more FFVII AC figures were released by Kotobukiya in the end of year 2005. The figures were sculpted by Takayuki Takeya, and they will be released in window boxes. The figures and are Bahamut Sin, Shadow Creeper and the airship Sierra.

This pair of high quality FFVII AC polystone statues featuring Cloud and Sephiroth fighting in the ruins of Midgar is an expensive but flashy way to show of your love towards Advent Children. The set is due to release in the near future.

...and another one.

A FFVII AC neckstarp. For now it is not clear to me what does this item have to do with Advent Children.

The Cloudy Wolf Strap is a relatively inexpensive piece of official FFVII AC merchandise. Available on the official Square-Enix website.

The Shinra Name Tag Holder / Lanyard. Available on the official Square-Enix website.

The Shinra Pin is small and made of real .925 silver. Available for Japanese buyers on the official Square-Enix website.

The Official FFVII AC T-shirt is black and features the Cloudy Wolf. Available on the official Square-Enix website.

There are two official Cloudy Wolf jewelry pieces, Cloudy Wold Ring and Cloudy Wold Earring (sold separately). They are both made of real .925 silver and are quite expensive. Both items are available on the official Square-Enix website.

Out of the FFVII AC merchandise the Cloudy Wolf Zippo is one of the most expensive. Available for Japanese buyers on the official Square-Enix website.

There are currently five official Japanese FFVII AC posters that I know of. The biggest one (102x66cm) features Cloud and Sephiroth with the FFVII AC logo. The other two (B2/72x52cm) come in one set, the other features Tifa fighting in the slum church and the other features the Silver Haired Men, Kadaaj, Loz and  Yazoo on their motorbikes. All three posters come in Squre-Enix poster tube. The posters are available for Japanese buyers on the official Square-Enix website. The Cloud and Sephiroth poster is also available on the North American website. I currently don't have any information regarding the latest two official posters, but I will write more about them as soon as possible.

This FFVII AC PlayArts booklet consists of 14 color pages full of pictures of the AC PlayArts figures. The booklet was given away as a promotional item in game and comic book related conventions in the US.

This Advent Children Shinra Employee ID Card is a rare and cool looking item. The card was only available for the Japanese people who registered on the official Square-Enix Advent Children website during a special promotion and applied for a job withing Shinra. Very hard items to obtain.

In October 2005 Bandai released a set of FFVII Advent Children Swing Keychains.. These gashapon keychains feature Cloud, Tifa, Kadaj, Yazoo and Loz and be about 7 cm high.

These fake FFVII AC keychains are easy to tell from the real ones as the chains are different.

The box says Bandai, but aren't these AC figures just creepy..?

This 20 - page promotional Premiere Program booklet from the FFVII AC test screening has already become quite rare and popular piece of FFVII AC memorabilia.

The promotional FFVII AC plastic folder was distributed during an exhibition by Panasonic.

The DoCoMo P900iV mobile phone by Panasonic is supposingly the phone used by Cloud in the AC movie. Can be used to play Final Fantasy, for example. Available in Japan.

These cards seem to be Squre-Enix Christmas Cards from Jump Festa 2004. The cards feature pictures of Advent Children, Dirge of Cerberus, Before Crisis and Final Fantasy XII. There is also a similiar set of christmas cards from 2005. There are also some FFVII AC related promotional postcards in the postcard set given away by Square-Enix during the 2005 Tokyo Game Show, but unfortunately I have no pictures of them.

This promotional FFVII AC postcard set was released by the Japanese magazine GanGan in 2005.

Unfortunately there are already a lot of fake AC jewelry and posters out there. Make sure you know what you are buying!

A lot of Japanese magazines have of course been writing articles and introducing pictures of Advent Children. The cover of Famitsu PS2 Vol. 170 (July 2004) and Playstation Dengeki Vol. 312 (June 2005) magazines featured the hero of FFVII AC, Cloud Strife. The PS2 Dengeki Special Advent Issue vol.314 (July 2005) features Tifa as a cover girl and includes an article about the movie. This magazine also came with two DVDs with Advent Children E3 2005 trailer and other game related material on them.

Square-Enix didn't allow downloading the AC trailers so it was very difficult to view them outside the official website prior to the release of the movie. There have been some promotinal publications with AC trailer material on them, for example this Square-Enix Media Kit double CD Set distributed during E3 2005. The other CD contains a media-only FFVII AC trailer.

The English spoken FFVII trailer, alongside with many other beautiful game trailers has also been available in DVD form on the Square-Enix Winter 2004 DVD that was distributed to the press.
